About the Opportunity

Sawridge First Nation has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Executive Director role, based at its principal office adjacent to Slave Lake, AB, with opportunities for a hybrid work model as per business needs.

Reporting to and advising the Chief and Council, you will be primarily responsible for providing plans for implementation, managing key resources and overseeing the First Nations' administration, whilst handling general office inquiries.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Representing and managing external relations for the First Nation
  • Developing and overseeing strategic plans, policies, and procedures
  • Supervising employees and managing central resources
  • Preparing and overseeing annual budgets, collaborating with auditors, and negotiating compensation agreements
  • Managing financial aspects, including signing cheques, insurance, pensions, and grants
  • Fulfilling various roles, such as Principal Management Officer and Secretary to the Management Board
  • Attending Council meetings and providing support
  • Managing Council meeting logistics, including preparing agendas, maintaining minutes, and distributing packages
  • Drafting various documents, policies, procedures, and communications
  • Assisting with Lesser Slave Lake Indian Regional Council (LSLIRC) meetings and Sawridge Management Corporation agreement services
  • Maintaining communication and compliance with ISC, including report preparation and annual audit reviews
  • Authorizing maintenance purchase orders, obtaining quotes, and liaising with maintenance staff

More About You

To qualify for this role, you should hold post-secondary education in a relevant field, ideally with a minimum of 3+ years of relevant experience. We will also consider an equivalent combination of education and related experience. If you possess fewer years of experience but have transferrable skills and the determination to excel within the organization, we encourage you to reach out to us.

The following requirements are essential:

  • Located in Alberta - hybrid work options available, but must be within reasonable travel distance
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 Driver's License

The following skills and experience will be strong assets:

  • Profound understanding of First Nations operations
  • In-depth knowledge of First Nation economic development
  • Extensive expertise in First Nation funding and Crown-Indigenous relations
  • Demonstrated property management experience
  • Familiarity with Indigenous legal and political issues
  • Proven track record in research and grant applications
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Self-motivated and responsible work ethic
  • Effective management of high-paced schedules and workloads
